Reports to: Course Instructor, TRN250Y1Y; The Dean of Arts at ÑÇÖÞ³ÉÈËÊÓÆµ.

Compensation: $53.44 (plus 4% vacation & subject to statutory deductions). Approximately 270 hours.

ÑÇÖÞ³ÉÈËÊÓÆµ is a vibrant and diverse academic community with a rich history and an excellent local and international reputation. Position Summary: ÑÇÖÞ³ÉÈËÊÓÆµ is looking to fill the position TRN250Y1Y: Empire, Nationalism, and the History of International Relations.

Note: This is one of two TA positions for TRN250Y1Y.

TRN250Y1Y is a required 2nd year course in the International Relations Program.

About the course:

  • Course Code: TRN250Y1Y: Empire, Nationalism, and the History of International Relations
    The lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, 3pm – 5pm
    Tutorials are Wednesday 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Wednesday 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, Wednesday 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Wednesday 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
  • Enrolment: 58
    Description: This course offers an introduction to the history of international relations by exploring the transition from a world of empires to our contemporary world of nation-states. Adopting a global historical perspective, this course surveys every region of the world and pays special attention to the ideas that connect them. This course will also introduce students to historical research and writing by guiding them through the stages of producing an independent research paper based on primary and secondary sources.

  • Recommended Preparation: Prerequisite courses for entry into International Relations Major or Specialist Program

Duties: The TA will be required to lead four weekly tutorials, attend weekly lectures, hold office hours (1 hour per week), read assigned materials, invigilate a midterm and a final exam, grade all assignments (including essays and exams) for students in their tutorial sections, respond to student questions by email outside of scheduled office hours, work with the instructor and second TA to maintain a Quercus course page, and assist with other duties as determined by the course instructor and program director.

Qualifications: Current doctoral students who have completed at least one year of their program. Likely programs of study could include Political Science, History, Global Affairs, Public Policy.

ÑÇÖÞ³ÉÈËÊÓÆµ should have strong academic teaching ability, excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, and must be able to work in a collegial manner with the course instructor.
